Extremely difficult platformer
Washout Spire is a free and action-packed platformer developed by an indie developer, June Flower. This physics-based Windows PC game provides a retro, clean and sharp pixel art style. The sound effects are crisp and lively as well adding greatly to its liveliness, with many different elements to keep you at the edge of your seat.
This high-speed-paced and roller coaster ride that Washout Spire exhibits can be played using your keyboard or any input controller you have. For the record, the game is claimed to be harder than the likes of Super Meat Boy or even Celeste.
Simple controls, difficult to master
The basic controls of Washout Spire are easy and smooth to operate. For keyboards, you just need to hit the WASD buttons to move the camera and the space bar to command your character to jump. The thing that you have to dedicate your skills to is the mastery of your momentum, as well as its power to successfully overcome stumbling blocks.
When you launch the game, you will start by falling into a big, red, circular hole. As you land, you are free to go left and right or move up and down. Dying is inevitable but, so is retrying. There are plenty of checkpoints placed around the game’s environment. None of your efforts will be wasted as your current progress will automatically be saved.
Empowering you to respawn your life at the latest checkpoint you reached. After you finish a certain spire floor, a fully illustrated story cutscene will flash on your screen. Proving that this is also a game enriched with a captivating storyline. You will climb numerous high-rising towers and jump on many of its floors in order to discover what lies at the top of this tight 2D side-scrolling gameplay.
