Cute physics-based platformer game for PC
Dream Hook is a free adventure game for PC made by indie developer gravelblock. It is a 2D platformer that follows the adventures of a cute character traveling through various locations with the help of her trusty grappling hook to get around.
Given other games like Deepest Sword or Struggling, Dream Hook’s gameplay is highly physics-based and will test players’ skills and reflexes. It offers a free-play approach that lets them play at their own pace, learning its platforming mechanics, exploring various paths, and unlocking multiple endings available.
Swing swing swing
In Dream Hook, you take control of a cute and unnamed female protagonist as she goes on adventures through various locations throughout your playthroughs. They range from forests to dream-like mazes, and everything else in between. Each one features a unique environment, platforming challenges, and traps to face and overcome. They can also lead to one of the multiple possible endings you can unlock.
Movement and traversal in the game revolve around your grappling hook and the many ways you can utilize it to get around. As mentioned earlier, the gameplay is highly physics-based, and you will need to learn and familiarize yourself with the intricacies of your trusty tool. In particular, get accustomed to the swing mechanic and how it affects the force and direction of your jumps.
Your grappling hook can pretty much stick to any surface like gum, making the whole swinging part all the easier to do. You even get to unlock a piece of new equipment, but it’s something that you have to find out for yourself. The only thing that could make it better would be more levels, and that’s something that the developers are probably already considering and/or working on.
Get hooked
Dream Hook offers a fun and charming experience from start to finish. The controls are simple but the gameplay has some depth and complexity to it that requires you to learn and master its mechanics to progress. Add to that the multiple levels and ending available, and you have for yourself something quite memorable and replayable. If you’re into platformers, give this one a try.
