New free VPN

Atlas VPN is a relatively new app that offers good security credentials. As the name suggests, this is a virtual private network, providing you with tools that can hide your identity and access restricted content as you browse. It is free to download and use, although it offers a premium version with better options and faster servers.

Atlas VPN offers more than 700 servers in 28 countries. It also uses the IKEv2 tunneling protocol and comes with a kill switch feature. Even better, although free, it offers unlimited data with strong security features, zero ads, and a no-logs policy.

What does Atlas VPN offer?

Atlas VPN is a VPN based in the USA that provides users protection while they surf the internet. As mentioned, it comes with 700 server locations in 28 countries, which is more compared to small VPNs, such as BlufVPN. However, it is relatively smaller compared to big names such as CyberGhost and NordVPN. Additionally, you can only use servers from two countries in the unpaid version.

The app uses AES 256—the same encryption standard for military and financial institutions. It also uses IKEv2 as its tunneling protocol, which is both fast and secure. Even better, it comes with a kill switch that secures your data during VPN disruption. Users will also be happy to know that this feature is available even in the free version. You can even turn on the native Always-on VPN feature.

Unlike other VPNs, Atlas VPN can unblock geo-restrictions for streaming platforms, such as Netflix. However, this only applies to the premium version as the servers available in the free version have no Optimized-for-Streaming caption. Additionally, while you can download torrents, you shouldn’t expect fast speeds. Also, SOCKS5 proxy or port forwarding features are missing, meaning the app is not the best choice for your P2P activities.

Should you use it?

All things considered, Atlas VPN is still new to compete against other big names in the VPN market. The app, while simple and offers nifty features, comes with numerous limitations. For one, even its premium version has limited server locations. The speed that the servers have is also slower compared to other services. However, it is worth a shot if you are looking for a cheap and simple VPN.
