A first-person puzzle horror game
I Frog-ot is a free game released under a “name your own price” model. It is a puzzle exploration game, which is played from a first-person perspective, and features two distinct art styles. The first of those art styles is a colorful low-poly affair, while the second is a retro-styled, pixellated style. The game features an interesting blend of styles.
The game utilizes two very different styles, both visually and thematically. In terms of the colorful visuals and friendly nature, the opening part of the game can be likened to Poly Bridge. Meanwhile, the second part of the game is more like Security Booth, with its pixellated visuals and tense atmosphere.
Help a frog out
In I Frog-ot, the player takes on the role of an unnamed protagonist playing from a first-person perspective. They find their day spent lounging on the sofa and watching TV interrupted by a loud bang from next door. Upon investigation, they find a talking frog who has amnesia and set out on a quest to help him.
First-person puzzle-solving
At its core, I Frog-ot is a puzzle and exploration game where the player must explore their environment to find the things they need to progress. As the game moves into the second half, the tension ramps up with the introduction of horror elements, but the fundamental gameplay remains the same.
A clever game that could be misleading
Although an intentional piece of misdirection, the friendly cartoonish nature of the game could be misleading to some, resulting in players who are not interested in horror games playing it. For players who are interested in horror, I Frog-ot puts an interesting twist on the retro-styled horror genre.
