Free and relaxing travel simulator

The Winds of September is a free simulator that lets you experience the calm and comfortable feeling of walking across a scenic forest setting. With a host of relaxing activities to do, you can almost feel nature taking over in this first-person adventure experience.

Built using the Unreal Engine, The Winds of September boasts a photorealistic environment. It’s not really a game in the classical sense, but more of an interactive experience that leaves players to relax and watch the countryside. This unique idea for a game creates a short meditative session that helps its players calm down and unwind.

Travel the countryside

For such a small game, The Winds of September surprisingly clocks in at about 2.5GB–so you’d better make sure that your system has enough resources to hold and run this app. Once you open it, the game immediately starts and you find yourself in a wooden caravan. You can walk around your cabin or view the scenic countryside pass you by through any of the caravan’s windows and openings.

A little while later, you can do other activities in the caravan instead of just pacing back and forth. You can water the plants, read books from the shelves, or even make yourself a small meal. At the back of the caravan, you can find a cozier bed and an open-top–making a great place to hang out and watch the evening sky unfold all around you.

This is an adventure experience that doesn’t have you doing tasks or quests. For players looking for enemies to beat and stages to conquer, this is not for you. As intended by the developer, The Winds of September only takes you for a ride around an idyllic landscape. It goes around forests, mountainsides, lakesides, and prairies–like a picturesque screen saver.

A calming experience

The Winds of September is the kind of app that you can run, get your character to a place in the caravan with a nice view, and just enjoy the experience. Its scenic views are actually relaxing and you can choose to do nothing but watch the landscape unfold before you. Since it was made using the powerful Unreal Engine, the photorealistic views come with rather large file size.
