Cloud storage and management software

Box is a cloud storage and file-sharing service developed by Box Inc. It’s a cloud computing business that offers sharingmanagement, and collaboration tools for files uploaded to its servers. It features cross-platform compatibility and is being offered in three plans. These are Personal, Business, and Enterprise, with each one having different price tiers to choose from depending on your needs and requirements. There is a free plan for an individual user being offered, as well.

Box vs. Dropbox

Box has primarily catered to business and enterprise clients, but it offers its services to individual users, as well. When comparing it to arguably, its closest competitor, Dropbox, there are a few notable differences to take note of. For individual users, Dropbox offers a Basic account that comes with 2GB of free cloud storage. On the other hand, Box offers 10GB for its Individual account, but there is a 250MB file upload limit, though.

Box offers unlimited storage and any number of users for its Business and Enterprise options. It also gives clients the choice of either a monthly or an annual subscription to its service. Dropbox has the same subscription model but only offers unlimited storage on its highest-tier Advanced plan. Security is equally good on both, having various measures, such as file encryption and user authentication in place. Both are also transparent with regards to how they handle user data.

When it comes to ease-of-use, Dropbox provides clearer instructions. It also wins out with its sync functionality that is simpler to do across platforms. Box handles file-sharing and integrations better, though. You can share large files of any type with it. You can also integrate it better with other services that you use as it supports most of them. Pricing is a bigger consideration as Box is generally more expensive. Dropbox just offers more price flexibility under its different plans.

The choice is yours

At the end of the day, what you end up choosing will depend on what your needs are. If you’re looking for a cloud storage solution for your business, Box is a great choice. It offers unlimited storage and any number of users, supports any file type, and integrates well with other services. If you just want something simple for personal use, though, Dropbox has more flexible price tiers to choose from.
