The latest free upgrade for Mac
macOS High Sierra is a free upcoming operating system from Apple developed for Macs and Macbook Pros. As the follow-up to Apple’s last release, Sierra, macOS High Sierra takes things to the next level, like its name suggests, and includes brand new features and a refined look and performance. Available on new Macs and with backward compatibility on some older models, the latest release of Apple’s flagship operating system promises an amazing computing experience for most Mac and Macbook Pro users.
Building on Sierra’s success
Announced at Apple’s WWDC ’17 event, macOS High Sierra introduces Mac users to new core technology that provides each system with a boost in performance. With improvements to the most basic and important functions of a Mac, its powerful graphic processors and data storage mean users can take full advantage of their computer’s capabilities. Its responsive design also means that common tasks are easier to perform than ever. It’s also even more secure with built-in encryption, simplified data backup and crash-safe protection.
New but familiar
Upon first glance, High Sierra looks an awful lot like its predecessor, Sierra, but that’s where the similarities end. Under the hood, performance is boosted by a new Apple file system, HEVC (high-efficiency video coding) and the new Metal 2 graphics processor, just to name a few. Even the standard apps receive an upgrade in performance that looks to capitalize on improved navigation and speed that is intuitive to most users.
