C-list horror indie game

Malum is an indie game that challenges players to battle against hordes of demons. It is a co-op survival game for one to four players. Here, you will explore various locations and survive their evil residents.

Players should know that Malum does not give you weapons. You have to unlock them first to use them. However, there are multiple difficulty settings that let you make it as accessible or as challenging as you want. Hardcore players will find though that the game lacks originality as it uses numerous pre-made assets from the Unreal Engine 4 template.

What is Malum?

Malum is a co-op survival horror game. Here, you and your squad will explore the world’s darkest places, including sewers, insane asylums, and Soviet bunkers. However, there are gruesome and often ridiculous collections of demons lurking in the dark. You can defeat them and blast them to where they came from. However, you will have to find the relics that can summon the weapon.

Each demon has its own abilities, from taunting and trapping to screaming and charging. Learning their strengths and weaknesses will be a big help as you don’t have a weapon in your hand when you enter the game. You have to find three runes and the ritual site to summon the weapon that can kill the demon. As you explore, you are only armed with a flashlight.

As mentioned, Malum uses pre-made assets for its graphics. Sure, there is nothing wrong with it, as popular games such as PUBG are built atop UE4 templates. However, the game took it to the extreme that it lacks originality. Moreover, some assets do not fit the graphical style of the rest of the game. It also doesn’t help that the end game is incredibly anticlimactic and unsatisfying.

Should you play it?

Overall, Malum is a good action game to play with your friends. It has varied maps you can explore, each with its own demon you need to defeat. It is even more challenging because you go there unarmed. However, the end game can be disappointing. Also, there isn’t much of a scare factor to it. Players will also find that it lacks originality due to the overuse of pre-made assets.
