Smash your way through a VR city

King Kaiju doesn’t have lofty ideas with regards to its game, it simply puts you in a city and asks that you destroy some stuff.

Smash a city as a monster

King Kaiju is a VR game where you play the part of a giant monster in a city. The items in the city may be destroyed. You may run around and destroy things in the city. The graphics are ugly, but you can make out what you are destroying. The flame and explosive effects are sadly unsatisfying, which is typical of games released in this era. It is sandbox game where you use your fists and even your fire breath to destroy the city. The damage you create is not ultimately rewarding, but it is good how the developers have added velocity and momentum physics. For example, if you smash two buildings together lightly, then they chip each other a little, but if you smash them together hard, then they shatter into pieces.

Could have been much more

King Kaiju is good because it allows you to destroy a city, but the whole point of going rogue like this is because it is fun, but it is oddly less fun if destruction is the only reason to do anything. For example, if one could set up cars and destroy them in a chain reaction, or set up buildings like domino and destroy them, then it may have been interesting. Better still, if there was a point to the game other than destruction, then players could enjoy the destruction as a side benefit, just like they do with console games such as GTA and Mercenaries.
