Investigate dead bodies and the tales they tell

Autopsy Simulator is a simulation video game wherein you must work on dead bodies in order to figure out the truth. Developed by Woodland Games, this 3D horror game is also a medical simulator and features both intensive forensic science and a story-driven mystery in its gameplay.

Similar to The Mortuary Assistant, Autopsy Simulator lets you deal with cold cadavers and the gruesome task of examining them. However, you’re much more focused on figuring out the cause of death than patching them up for funeral services. Nevertheless, there’s still mature content here in the form of graphic body dissections.

Respect the deceased

In Autopsy Simulator, you play as the middle-aged pathologist Jack, who’s been trying to go through the motions of daily life after the loss of his beloved wife. During a routine autopsy, however, he discovers that his wife’s engagement ring has somehow gotten inside one of the dead bodies he’s working on. This sets him on a dangerous journey as he tries to untangle the disturbing truth about the past.

The game plays out in first person point of view and will typically have you interacting with and observing objects in order to glean information about your character and the cases before you. As a pathologist, you must perform true-to-life autopsy procedures on the victims. These cases were designed by real forensic doctors, so the simulator part is surprisingly better than expected.

However, this also means that the game takes its craft seriously and delivers gruesome-looking scenes as you dissect bodies. Even without the horror aspect, this is definitely not for younger players or even those faint of heart. You can enable Censored Mode to hide the dead bodies’ nudity, but the internal organs won’t be censored and the realistic-looking 3D graphics really give the game that clinically-eerie edge.

A highly-realistic sim

All in all, Autopsy Simulator is another great horror game that deals with cutting up the dead and encountering strange events. While it can get pretty graphic and uncomfortable, its execution is top-notch and definitely highlights the horrific thought of working with the dead—whether it’s investigating their deaths or preparing them for burial. It definitely takes inspiration from the 2016 horror film, The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
