Bring mecha action to Doom II with the Doom II: Iron Assault Mod

The Doom II: Iron Assault Mod is a free add-on that brings a whole new game to Doom II, inspired by a nineties cult classic.

Combining Doom II with Iron Assault

The Doom II: Iron Assault Mod is more than a typical add-on. Instead of simply extending Doom II, it uses that game’s engine to add an entirely new game. The original Iron Assault was released in 1995 and told a science fiction story about the battles of giant robots. Now, with this mod, Iron Assault has been recreated in Doom II.

Mecha-based action

By incorporating Iron Assault into Doom II, the mod moves away from the traditional shooter gameplay of Doom II and towards mecha-based action similar to MechWarrior Online or Hardcore Mecha. The game includes a rich science fiction storyline in which you take on the role of a mech pilot fighting against the forces of a brutal syndicate.

A range of customization options

When you choose your robot suit in the Doom II: Iron Assault Mod, you will be able to customize it using a wide range of different weapons and modules. More than just cosmetic, these come with different functions that will impact your gameplay. Once you have built your mech, you will be able to send it on missions across vast maps filled with objects and buildings that you can damage and destroy.

A classic returns

Even if you have never played the original Iron Assault, if you are a fan of this type of strategic mecha-based game you may be interested in seeing what this free mod has to offer. It succeeds in transforming Doom II into a completely different game and, although Doom purists may prefer to go without, the new opportunities offered by this mod are substantial.
