Reenact the Ever Given’s misadventures

Totally Accurate Suez Canal Training Simulator is a free simulation video game wherein you get to become familiar with the intricacies of the Suez Canal. Developed by Mythical City Games, this 3D indie game is a silly parody of the 2021 Suez Canal obstruction incident, wherein a huge ship ended up getting stuck.

This is similar to DIAMOND HANDS: THE GAME STONK. You can navigate the narrow stretch of a waterway by using an enormous container ship carrying hundreds of goods. Totally Accurate Suez Canal Training Simulator is available either as a downloadable file or as a browser game.

Become a problem to global maritime trade

In March 2021, the Suez Canal was blocked for six days after the grounding of the Ever Given, which was a 400-meter-long container ship. It completely wedged itself sideways into the canal, blocking all traffic behind it. This had a significant negative impact on trade as the canal is one of the world’s busiest trade routes. In spite of this, the event sparked a hilarious viral trend with its photos.

This online joke eventually inspired a funny little fan game titled Totally Accurate Suez Canal Training Simulator. The game lets you pilot a large container ship yourself, using either the WASD keys or arrow keys to move the vehicle. In-game physics plays a huge role here, as you have to navigate the tight turns by accelerating and decelerating the ship and steering.

On the screen, you’ll see an option to name your ship, a timer, your speed, a hilariously useless Economic Damage counter, and a “Buy New Ship” button. The goal is to simply not get stuck. It’s not easy to win, though, as the physics make it easy to get stuck, and buying a new ship doesn’t get rid of the old ones that you moored into the banks.

No need to be serious

All in all, Totally Accurate Suez Canal Training Simulator is great if you want to mess around with silly boat physics but it’s not the kind of game that actually rewards you with a Victory screen. It’s way too easy to lose your ship to the sturdy banks. There are also sections of the path wherein the water is too low and you can’t push through no matter your speed.
