Suzerain: A Political Role-Playing Game
Suzerain is a text-based narrative role-playing game that immerses the player in an alternate reality set in the 1950s. Developed by Torpor Games, the game allows the player to take on the role of the President of Sordland. The player can express themselves politically, morally, or pragmatically while taking on the responsibilities of being a father and husband.
Suzerain’s artistic aim is to create a realistic and engaging story that delves extensively into power relationships, hard choices, and real consequences. The game’s interactive and multi-conversant capable conversation system is the core element of gameplay. This system is supported by other story or game mechanics such as factions, budget, constructions, countries, news, situations, and policies which influence and/or react to player choice.
The game expands on serious complex topics such as security, economics, freedoms and many more while allowing the player to reflect their own views by steering them. The President’s role enables expression in the form of decisions that shape the country and its citizens in different ways. Suzerain provides an immersive experience that raises questions about the complexities of politics and the driving force behind certain behaviors.
