Adaptable 2D platforming game

Light Fall is a premium action game made by developer Bishop Games. It is a 2D platformer set in a world that has been cloaked in perpetual darkness. Players are one of the last glimmer of light left, on a perilous quest to save the land and its inhabitants.

Just like Limbo or Hollow Knight, Light Fall employs the concept of light and dark in its design and presentation. It also introduces an innovative platforming mechanic wherein players can create and use any platform to help them navigate and traverse the game’s world and overcome various challenges.

Glimmer of hope

Light Fall takes place in the Forgotten World of Numbra, wherein darkness prevails over the light. You are on a journey to seek the source of this phenomenon, and save your land from its perpetual state of disarray and hopelessness. Take control of the Shadow Core, an artifact that you can summon to provide you with the means to traverse the world and its many obstacles and dangers.

The world is filled with deadly creatures and pitfalls. The magical boxes provided by the Shadow Core help you overcome the various platforming challenges you’ll encounter along the way. Each of the unique biomes you’ll explore features secrets, alternate paths, and treasures to collect. A grumpy old owl named Stryx will accompany you to help you out or serve as your personal in-game narrator.

Once you’ve experienced the main story for yourself and want more, you can engage in some healthy competition with other players for the fastest times via the Speedrun game mode. As for things that need further improvements, it would be the controls that can feel a little sluggish and unresponsive at times, souring the overall gameplay somewhat. Everything else, from the art style to the offbeat humor are rather charming.

Beauty in the darkness

It may have a dark and atmospheric presentation but Light Fall is a hauntingly captivating experience that manages to make clever use of light and color in an otherwise monotone world. The adaptive platforming mechanics are novel and the puzzles and challenges themselves are interesting. If you’re looking for a new platformer that is a little different, this game is worth considering. Recommended.
