Catch Archie with Mike
Monsters U: Catch Archie is a movie tie-in with Pixar’s Monsters University. The game combines endless runner gameplay and limits them with stages for kid-friendly challenges.
Quick gameplay
While Monsters U: Catch Archie pulls its gameplay from endless running games, it adds levels to make gameplay designed for quicker sessions.
The goal of each level in Monsters U: Catch Archie is to catch Archie, the mascot. Playing as Mike, you run through the campus avoiding different hazards like chalkboards or bike racks.
Once you grab him, you have to ride him until he gives up. Archie will attempt to throw you off by bucking and you regain your balance by tapping on the screen.
Each level is timed and you have to capture Archie to complete the level. You are given scores that translate to star rankings.
Great for kids because it’s not that challenging
Monsters U: Catch Archie is meant for kids. It creates bite-sized sessions that give kids a reason to keep playing. Each level is a little bit more difficult as you progress, but the difficulty gradually gets higher.
Instead of using motion controls, moving is through the touchscreen. Swiping in different directions causes different actions like jumping or sliding. Once you are close enough to Archie, a “Grab” icon will appear and Mike will jump on his back.
As he attempts to throw you off, you tap left and right on the screen to keep your balance as time runs down. Once you deplete Archie’s timer, he is captured and the level is over.
You are given a score depending on how many Monsters University icons you collect and the time it took to completely capture Archie.
Low and high res versions
After installation, Monsters U: Catch Archie will ask if you want to download high definition assets. This will increase the graphics quality of the game. But with older devices, you may experience some slowdown.
It’s easy to pick up and play and doesn’t require a lot of skill. With a lot of replayability, Monsters U: Catch Archie is still better for kids rather than adults, with the characters from Monsters University making appearances.
Superficial gameplay
There isn’t much to Monsters U: Catch Archie other than chasing Archie. It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that if the full and ad-free version of the game is purchased, you get another game type.
Kids will enjoy Monsters U: Catch Archie, but otherwise it’s a very simplistic arcade game.
