Tactical RPG adventure game for PC

Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a premium role-playing game for PC by developer Tactical Adventures. It is a turn-based RPG wherein player choices matter the most. It was designed based on the System Reference Document(SRD) ruleset established for the popular tabletop series Dungeons & Dragons.

Similar to Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Solasta: Crown of the Magister aims to offer a unique and memorable experience with tactical gameplay and intricate storytelling. Players will take charge of a band of heroes as they journey through the land and face all kinds of challenges and threats.

Luck of the draw

Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a CRPG wherein your choices matter and the roll of the dice determines your fate. In it, you control a party of four heroes, each with their own distinct traits and personalities that affect story progression and dialogue. Your mission is to explore ancient ruins in search of treasure, and to learn the truth of a historic catastrophe to prevent it from happening again.

Utilizing the same SRD ruleset as Dungeons & Dragons, the gameplay is of the tabletop role-playing variety. The game features dynamic environments to take into consideration, and possibly take advantage of, as you strategize and coordinate your attacks. Dice rolls will determine your paths and encounters, so you best be quick on your feet and think fast as you face challenges and situations as they come.

The game has multiplayer co-op, so you call on your friends for help. There’s always some new adventure to be had, and you can create your own using the built-in Dungeon Maker to share with others in the community. Unfortunately, the experience is marred with multiple bugs and frequent crashes. The same holds true if you opt to play with others online as you have connection issues to deal with.

Anything goes

Overall, Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a decent RPG that draws inspiration from some of the best tabletop games out there. The gameplay is strategic and highly variable with the many possible outcomes from dice rolls. However, the execution needs more work and polish to be enjoyable. Hopefully, its issues get addressed and fixed in an update sooner than later.
