A solid update on a classic strategy game

Wargroove 2 is a turn-based strategy game with lots of interesting features. These include things such as rule customizations, asynchronous play, as well as an in-game editor for custom maps and cutscenes.

This 2.5D isometric game was developed by Chucklefish and Robotality. It comes as a sequel to WarGroove, and it is similar to games like Tiny Metal and Advance Wars. However, this update boasts a medieval backdrop.

Who can play it?

This pirate game is available in eight languages, including English. It has yet to be released, but a skill rating of 7+ and compatibility with most consoles, desktops, and handheld gaming devices are likely. It comes with an online co-op and in-game editor for shareable custom maps, campaigns, and cutscenes.

What’s it about?

Three years after Queen Mercia restored peace to Aurania, trouble is stirring on its shores anew. Foreign invaders unearth hidden relics, but flamethrowing pirate Nadia of the Saffron Isles steps in to help. Over three campaigns and one side story, players take to battle on land, sky, and sea using commanders of emu-riding Airtroopers and Krakens.

What’s special about it?

This tactical game comes with a twist on the old Groove system. The battle is still turn-based, but players can choose to bide their time and deliver a supercharged version of the Commander’s ‘Groove’ move. Also unique is a 14-chapter roguelike single-player mode where assets, units, and health are carried over to the next skirmish.

Just wait to feel the Groove

Hardcore strategy game fans have every reason to like this game. Examples include the multiplayer map creator, story customization, and asynchronous play to the variety of new commanders. There’s also the whole ‘Groove’ move rethink that completely rewrites the odds of a battle.
