This free app lets you read reports from the Doha based news agency and also stream live the Al Jazeera English Live news channel.

This media application has two main parts, the newspaper-like content and the live rolling news station. The news site is regularly updated, and includes social media sharing as well as lots of images to go with the text. Unlike some news services, Al Jazeera English Live doesn’t do entertainment. This may be a relief to some, and the news, business and sport coverage is all very good.

The second part of Al Jazeera English Live is the streaming video. Supplied by LiveStation, this gives you a live stream, over 3G or Wifi, of the English language news station. We found the quality to be surprisingly good on both networks, although over 3G every 10 minutes weighs about 7.2 MB so you might have to take care depending on your service agreement. There is no pause or rewind function available on the live stream.
