A free quirky horror game
I Am Brewing You Alive But You Can Leave At Any Time If You Really Want To is a very short free horror simulation video game about potions and small talk. Developed by Autumn Rain, this interactive fiction game features you meeting a polite witch who doesn’t mind you messing up her plans. You are free to do whatever once you regain control of your body—although the controls are mostly limited.
Please stay
Despite its long name, I Am Brewing You Alive pretty much already says the premise of its story. You wake up to find yourself standing inside a bubbling cauldron, with a strange witch standing over you. She greets you cordially and quickly explains what she’s doing to you—which is cooking you into a delicious potion—but nicely asks for your cooperation. After that, you can either look around and chat with her or just leave.
The controls are simple and easily taught in the main menu. You move your mouse to look around the small house, press Z to zoom in and out of your view, press F to go to full-screen mode, click the left mouse button to talk to the witch, and press the Spacebar to leave the cauldron. Take note that this last one will promptly activate the ending in which you successfully escape your death.
Made for the 2-Minute Horror Jam, you only have two minutes in the cauldron. If you don’t leave, you can talk to the witch. She’ll teleport to different spots in the room and do different actions every time you look around. The horror part comes from her new positions—some of which can look creepy or surprising whenever you turn around. Despite this, she’s actually fun to talk to and can easily distract you from leaving.
Short but still enjoyable
Overall, I Am Brewing You Alive But You Can Leave At Any Time If You Really Want To is an interesting little game to try out. It can be fun to see just how many dialogues and creepy positions the witch can do. Plus, it’s not too scary, so most players can still enjoy it. It’s only too bad that it’s quite short, and leaving means immediately ending the game.
