Free offline map app

Ondago is a navigation application by Mapgears. This free-to-use program provides users with electronic maps straight from their mobile phones. With this, you can leave your paper maps at home and go about your outdoor activities without worry.

Unlike Google Maps, Ondago works offline. Additionally, it uses GPS functionality on your phone, so you will know where you are exactly. There are even some nifty features, including fun photos, descriptions, and guides for your location. Note, however, that you still need to download the maps before you can actually use them. Moreover, since it is free, expect tons of advertisements.

What can Ondago do?

Ondago is an offline map, which works best for hiking trails around the world. The app has a rich selection of maps from different locations, with new ones added to their catalog regularly. Not only that, but it also lets you plan your activities and create itineraries, which you can refer to whenever you are out on an adventure. It even provides access to your event’s schedules.

As with other map apps, Ondago lets you know the distance between you and your destination. Moreover, it uses your GPS function to get your exact location on any territory. Besides navigation, it also provides interactive items, such as touristic information and points of interest. You can also see photos of where you are going. Even better, you can take pictures and share them without leaving the app.

However, before you make a switch, there are things you need to consider. For one, while it works offline, Ondago requires you to download the maps.  Downloading new maps every time will also take a toll on your storage. Moreover, the live tracking feature sometimes does not work. And if it does, it often provides an inaccurate position. Finally, there is so much advertising that it renders the app unusable.

Should you download it?

Ondago is a handy app to have, especially if you are often hiking or going to places with weak or no internet connection. The app works offline and even lets you plan an itinerary for your outdoor adventure. However, while it has a promising concept, its implementation says otherwise. The features it offers are not reliable, and the advertisements sometimes render it unusable. Overall, online maps are still a better choice.
