SOS EU ALP is a free alpine rescue app used to report alpine emergencies from across Tyrol in Austria, Bolzano in Italy, and Bavaria in Germany. Formerly known as Notfall App für Tirol, it reads the user’s coordinates and informs the appropriate rescue center.

The SOS EU ALP emergency app features an integrated GPS module. Users can send personal information, location, altitude, and phone battery levels to the rescue center at the push of a button.

What is an alpine emergency app?

Alpine SOS apps enable users to notify air and ground rescue teams in an emergency. Using GPS technology, mountain rescue apps share the user’s precise location and health situation. An SOS app may also include first aid instructions and keep users up-to-date with the team’s whereabouts.

How do I use the SOS EU ALP?

The app features GPS and data connection information on a simple and uncluttered dashboard. Once set up, users can enter and edit personal information, contact details, and medical data. They can also search for AEDs in their area and view a breakdown of their most recent locations. Crucially, there is a red button for reporting emergencies via text and call.

Must-have for safe alpine excursions in Tyrol

As emergency tools go, SOS EU ALP is unique in that it features cross-national coverage, battery level reporting, simultaneous text and call connections, and a built-in fail-safe for false alarms. Precise localization makes it a faster alternative to calling the alpine emergency number, 140, or the 112 number outside of Tyrol. However, its accuracy depends on internet connectivity.
