Space-themed wallpaper app for PC

SpaceEye is a free and open-source wallpaper program for PC that was developed by Michael Galliers, aka KYDronePilot. This personalization software allows users to download publicly available live images that are captured from space satellites and use them as their desktop background on any of their devices.

Similar to My Daily Space Wallpaper, SpaceEye will let you set live satellite images of your choice as your wallpaper. New resource images are continuously being download at short intervals to ensure that you the latest and up-to-date captures of space possible from various viewpoints and weather stations.

How do I use SpaceEye?

Using SpaceEye is fairly simple and straightforward. Once installed, you will be able to access it via its program icon located in your system tray. Click on it, and a side window will appear, showing you a grid of 12 live satellite images of the Earth that were obtained from 5 weather satellites, namely Himawari-8, GOES-17 (West), GOES-16 (East), Meteosat-8, and Meteosat-11.

SpaceEye will continuously look for and download the latest and most up-to-date satellite images that it can find. The frequency of the updates ranges from 10 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the view of the Earth. Click on the three-dot icon to see its settings menu. There, you can set it to auto-start on PC boot up and auto-update to new versions.

There are two things to be aware of before you use SpaceEye. The first is that it does not let you set a custom resolution for your wallpaper, making it hard to get the exact fit that you want on your desktop. The second is that you cannot download satellite images and save them directly to your PC.

Live satellite imagery for your desktop

If you’re into astronomy and anything space-related, SpaceEye is worth checking out. It provides beautiful and high-resolution images of Earth that you can use as wallpapers for your desktop. It offers you 12 viewpoints of the world, and it updates regularly, so you always have the latest satellite images at any given time. It is definitely recommended.
