Open-source VPN client for mobile

Outline is a free VPN application for mobile from developer Jigsaw Operations LLC. It is the official client app for the open-source VPN service of the same name. With it, the user will be able to connect to their Outline Server, which can either be self-hosted or sourced from cloud service providers.

Compared to other solutions like X-VPN or Ultrasurf VPN, Outline boasts a simple and intuitive user interface that makes it easy to use even for beginners. It does require some configuration and setup, but it lets users have complete control of the settings they want to apply.

A VPN for everyone

A VPN is an essential tool to have, especially if you’re someone who values and cares a lot about your privacy and security while online. There are many services available in the market today, from free offerings to paid subscriptions, each trying to offer some special feature or perk of its own. In that regard, Outline is a pretty intriguing entry to the space being completely open-source.

This VPN deploys Shadowsocks servers that utilize open-source encryption protocols to mask your IP and help you bypass region-specific sites and services. One of its highlight features is its seamless cross-platform compatibility. Another is the option to let you host your own server for your specific needs through the Outline Server or utilize one of the many cloud-based service providers like Google Cloud Platform or Amazon C2E.

What’s more, you can share your server with others using the Outline Manager, which is a nice and unique feature that not a lot of others offer. Having said all of this, do keep in mind that this service is still not as robust or feature-packed as other services. It lacks the intricate traffic routing and data protection features found in paid VPNs if that is what you’re after.

Gets the job done

Outline is a solid choice for those who are new to using a VPN on their devices and will only use it for online browsing and such. It’s easy to use, works across multiple platforms, and is enough to cover most basic needs. It doesn’t have the most number of features and options, but if you can deal with its limitations, it will get the job done.
