The warm-up and cool-down phase of any workout are crucial to safely completing an exercise session and enjoying the benefits of exercise.
Warm up:
To get your body ready for exercise, warm up first. This should be done slowly and without strain. Stretching too quickly can increase the risk of injury. The warm-up phase should last between five and 10 minutes, depending on the intensity of the workout. During this time, move around slowly, doing light stretches and keeping your eyes open. Do not sit or stand still.
Cool down:
The cooling down phase is just as important as the warm up. It is a time to allow your body to return to its normal temperature and to allow the muscles to repair and strengthen. Stretching is an important part of this process.
Warm-up and cool-down can be done anytime before or after any workout and may be done in a number of ways.
Stretching is the simplest way to reduce muscle soreness and improve your athletic performance.
