Hands-On Equations 1: The Fun Way to Learn Algebra
Hands-On Equations 1 is an educational game app that teaches algebra to children as young as eight and adults of all ages. Developed by Henry Borenson, the app uses an innovative approach to teaching algebra, making it fun and easy to understand. The app includes an expert instructional video that introduces each lesson, followed by practice problems and ten lesson exercises.
The app uses a blue pawn to represent the unknown x variable and number cubes to represent the constants. In Lesson 1, the student uses thinking or “guess and check” to solve equations. Starting with Lesson 2, the student places the game pieces on a balance scale to represent the two sides of the equation. Beginning with Lesson 3, the student simplifies the equations by performing “legal moves” with the pawn and cubes. The student can verify their solution by resetting the problem to conduct the check.
