Open-source hashing tool for PC

QuickHash GUI is a free utility for PC created by an independent developer named Ted Smith. This open-source software is a portable hashing tool that can be used to check and verify the integrity of files. With it, users can ensure that there are no errors or corruption in their data.

QuickHash GUI essentially functions the same as other tools like HashTab and Hasher in that it allows for easy checking of file hash values. This process is especially crucial when large chunks of important and sensitive data are being copied or transferred from one machine to another.

How do I use QuickHash GUI?

Hashing is an algorithm that calculates an alpha-numerical value from a file. A hash value is essentially a condensed summary of all the content in a particular file. Hashes help cross-verify the value given by a download source from the one that is saved on your computer. If the numbers don’t match, it can either be that the data is corrupted or worse, it has been tampered with and compromised.

There are 8 tabs to navigate through in QuickHash. The first three from the left are TextFile, and FileS, all of which let you check and verify hash values from text, a file, or multiple files in a folder. Next, the Copy tab is handy if you need to transfer files to another PC as it will hash their values, copy them over, and re-hash them, all in one go.

Moving on, Compare Two Files and Compare Two Folders are just as their name suggests, let you compare hash values between two files or folders. The last two tabs are Disks and Base64, which let you check the hash of an entire disk and decode Base64 data from files. New users, be aware of a slight learning curve that is needed to use QuickHash properly.

Quickly verify the integrity of your files

In summary, if you value the security of your files or you often transfer data between PCs, QuickHash GUI is a tool that is worth checking out. It helps you easily and quickly check the integrity of your files or folders from downloads or transfers. It’s easy enough to use and offers plenty of options and methods to check hash values.
