Swing into action in The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man is an open-world action game featuring the beloved Marvel superhero. It was released as a tie-in to the 2012 Andrew Garfield film of the same name. Set a few months after the events of the first film, the game pits Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy against mad scientist Alistair Smythe. For much of the game, however, the fun comes from web-swinging around New York battling crooks and supervillains in side missions.
City of adventure
If you’ve played one of Rocksteady’s Arkham games, you’ll get the basic concept of The Amazing Spider-Man: you travel around a vast open world, battling baddies and completing side missions, when you feel like it, you can progress with the main story missions. Combat is all about chaining together combos, but you can also use your wall-crawling and web-swinging to take enemies by surprise. And, of course, if you’re about to get hit, the ol’ Spidey-sense will tingle. The city is also dotted with collectibles, including hundreds of comic pages which unlock vintage comic books from throughout Spider-Man’s publishing history.
The hero who could be you
There’s no aspect of The Amazing Spider-Man that really stands out as unique, but the game overall is a solid, enjoyable open-world action title. If you like Spidey and want to while away a few hours web-swinging and punching bad guys, check it out.
