Control your PC or Mac on the go
TeamViewer Free lets you control your desktop remotely over the internet. With this app installed you can safely manage all aspects of linked any linked computer directly from your mobile device with just an Internet connection.
Out and about
Setting up TeamView Free is simple and safe. All you need to do is install the PC or Mac version of TeamViewer, and then grab the identification number and password generated by it. Entering this into the TeamViewer Free app on your phone or tablet then pairs the systems, giving you remote access over any internet connection.
If you are worried about security, there is no need to be. You don’t have to turn off your firewall or virus protection to use TeamView, and it utilizes some of the highest security standards to keep the connection protected (256 Bit AES Session Encoding and 2048 Bit RSA Key Exchange if you understand such things).
Once connected, you can use all of your computers functions as if you were sat at it, using all of its installed programs and accessing files and documents stored there. If you need a document locally, it is also possible to transfer between the devices.
Compromise
Of course, controlling your computer from a touchscreen device does come with some issues. Without a mouse’s right-click, and virtual keyboards missing a number of keys seen on their computer counterparts, TeamViewer has to implement a virtual button to bring up digital equivalents of these vital missing functions. These include a Ctrl+Alt+Del button – because your computer can still crash when you are using TeamViewer Free (its good, but not that good).
There is a slider to help you zoom in and out of your desktop, vital on smaller screens.
You can also optimize the service from its settings, changing the speed of data transfer and storing frequently used connections.
If you always need everything with you
With TeamViewer Free, remote maintenance of PCs and Macs from your mobile device is easy. True, using the virtual keys is slower than a physical keyboard, but this is a small price to pay for versatility. The perfect app if you regularly find yourself maintaining unattended computers (such as servers) or helping less tech-savvy family members with their computer problems.
