Premium horror game
The School White Day is a paid adventure game from SONNORI. This survival-horror title is the mobile remake of the 2001 console video game, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School, with a cult following around the world. Return to Yeondu High School, a campus built on bad feng shui, and as such, evil spirits roam around.
This decision-driven game tasks you with rescuing your fellow female students. With no weapons or traditional combat mechanics, you will be relying on stealth and strategy to survive. It shares similarities with LIMBO, Horror Tale 2: Samantha, or SIMULACRA – Found Phone Horror Mystery.
A horror classic returns
The School White Day is the mobile remake of the 2001 video game originally released for PCs. However, it retains the full 3D perspective and the unique art style that adds to its ambiance. Basically, you explore the school looking for different items. What makes it additionally challenging is the use of limited inventory slots, making item organization an essential skill to succeed here.
The story starts with a rather simple and relatable premise. You play as a transfer student looking to give a gift to his crush. His post-Valentine plans take a wrong turn when he becomes trapped and starts getting mixed with supernatural beings. The background of the school, its students, and the roaming creatures, are explained little by little through notes and documents, giving players incentive to find these extra items.
The volume and the quality of content come at a price, however. Despite being released a couple of years back, it hasn’t gotten around to improving its system requirements and its optimization capabilities. While it’s a single-player game, it requires an active internet connection at all times, which somehow defeats its attempts at being accessible or replayable. Other than that, it also has some heavy storage requirements.
Thrilling horror with an immersive story
Much like the original SONNORI video game, The School White Day is a survival horror experience worth your time, money, and effort. It has a great overall story that is laid down gradually, keeping you immersed until the last lap. Its use of remastered textures while retaining the game’s unique art style is another reason why its scares are effective. Although demanding for mobile, it’s still worth a shot.
