Continue the plagued siblings’ adventure

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a premium adventure game that continues where A Plague Tale: Innocence left off. You continue guiding the young girl Amicia de Rune and her sickly brother Hugo. This mix of stealth, survival, and puzzles definitely raises the ante compared to its predecessor. There are grander locations to explore, more shocking revelations to uncover, and more guards to avoid.

With its growing world and in-game lore, A Plague Tale: Requiem is a worthy alternative to God of War or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, you don’t have a god-killer or a trained assassin, which makes it compelling.

Go where everything turns south

A Plague Tale: Requiem continues the siblings’ suspenseful and heartbreaking escape from their homeland. The developers really build on this premise, by creating a refreshing feel in terms of environment and gameplay experience. Although it builds on the same story, the game offers an entirely new feel that’s welcoming for new and returning players. It’s up to you to find out whether it is the island that can save Hugo.

As for the mechanics, it’s easier if you’ve played the first one. Still, you’ll see the effort that went into this game as evading the enemies and working around obstacles are taken to the next level. Aside from these challenging tasks, familiar puzzle formats return, and with them, a wave of nostalgia for those who’ve played them before. A warning though, these gameplay elements are difficult and take time to master.

Speaking of difficulty, it has to be the worst feature of the game for impatient players. They are unforgiving and tricky to deal with, crossing Dark Souls III territory. Since its combat system is not straightforward, you can definitely feel the disadvantage of kids fighting against adults, making it both realistic and incredibly frustrating.

Keeping the franchise fresh

If you loved the first Plague Tale, then you’ll definitely like A Plague Tale: Requiem. It keeps the story coherent and the gameplay experience new and refreshing. As you explore new lands, you also get to face new enemies and obstacles giving you opportunities to see how Amicia’s skills and Hugo’s powers have progressed. Make sure to bring a lot of patience because you’ll be playing some stages again and again.
