Old version of ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN (Outdated) is an unsupported version of the free-to-use privacy and security program from developer ProtonVPN AG. This VPN was last updated in December 2019 and has not received more since then. It’s no longer supported by the developer and continuing to use it is not recommended.

ProtonVPN is considered by many users to be one of the best, if not the best, mobile VPNs in the market. The team behind it had continuously worked to keep the VPN improving and up-to-date. Recently it’s been republished under an updated developer name, rendering this version outdated or obsolete.

Outdated and unsafe

ProtonVPN (Outdated) is no longer supported by the developers and has not received a new update since December 2019. Meaning this version of the VPN no longer has up-to-date security and features. Those who would choose to use this version will be missing out on new features and will be putting themselves at risk. Malicious elements online keep on evolving and this VPN can no longer keep up.

The only reason this mobile app is still listed in the market is to ensure those who search for ProtonVPN will be redirected to the updated version. The app’s official page explicitly says it’s outdated and provides visitors with a link to the officially supported version. Given that it’s outdated, its features are inferior to the ones offered by the updated version.

Most of all, using this VPN puts your data and privacy at risk. Being unsupported means this version no longer has up-to-date security. It’s no longer adequately equipped to protect you from unwanted surveillance or cyber criminals. The only reason anyone would want to use this outdated version is the fact that it works on Android versions as old as 4.4.

Should you use it?

No. The developer has made it clear that this is an outdated version of ProtonVPN. It only exists to redirect users who are interested in using the officially supported version. It does work on older versions of Android, but the security risk it poses is not worth it. Besides, its features pale in comparison to the features of the updated version.
