Sci-fi arcade shooter powered by GZDoom engine

Mala Petaka (Demo) is a free arcade game for PC created by indie developer Sanditio Bayu. This first-person shooter features retro 8-bit 2D graphics and a cartoonish and vibrant color palette. It offers plenty of weapons to choose from and a variety of enemies to blast away.

Just like Selaco, Mala Petaka (Demo) also runs on the open-source GZDoom game engine, and it’s all about the action and fast-paced shootouts. This demo version offers a small preview of what players can expect, looks and gameplay-wise, from the full game when it officially releases.

Angry dude against the world

In Mala Petaka (Demo), you play as the titular Petaka, a random dude who has inexplicably lost his memories and has this uncontrolled anger and rage deep within. Fortunately for him, there are plenty of green aliens and annoying drones roaming about to take his frustrations out on. You’ll join him in his quest to recover his lost memories while blasting everything that gets in his way.

The demo offers 6 difficulty levels to choose from to push your twitch reactions. There’s a wide variety of weapons, ranging from your fists to grenade launchers, and plasma rifles. You even get alternate firing modes for some of them. All of this, accompanied by chiptune music and sound effects that help amp up the sense of speed and fun as run through areas and blast enemies.

What’s more, there are various power-ups scattered all over that provide you with certain bonuses and interesting effects like Invulnerability, Time Freeze, and many more. As mentioned earlier, this is just a demo of the full game. It’s still very much in active development, so there’s some time left still to wait before you get to play it in its entirety. Stay tuned for that.

Blast and destroy stuff up

If you’re a fan of Doom-like games, Mala Petaka is an interesting shooter to check out. It offers cool retro graphics and the same fun and mindless gameplay that’s all about the action and blowing stuff up. If you just want to some simple and straightforward mayhem, be sure to give this demo a try.
