Experience fantasy sword fighting in VR

Swords of Gargantua is a paid virtual reality (VR) action adventure game that can be played in single player or in online cooperative with up to 3 other players. Developed by Thirdverse, this new high-energy experience sends you into a fantasy medieval world, specifically through the floors of a tower named Tesseract Abyss.

With its sword fighting and magical elements, Swords of Gargantua gives fellow VR action games Blade and Sorcery or BONEWORKS a run for their money. Furthermore, this game offers greater depth to the intricacies of a fight, giving players various roles for more effective gameplay.

Reach the depths of the abyss

The premise of Swords of Gargantua is simple: fight your way to the depths of Tesseract Abyss, where the titular Gargantua awaits on Floor 101. It feels like a step closer to virtual reality words as depicted in fiction, like Sword Art Online or Log Horizon. There’s even a lounge that hosts up to 8 players, serving as a hangout before or after a game.

There’s quite a variety of weapons available from different swords to boomerangs. Its content is further bolstered thanks to user-created content that includes custom weapons and battle mods, giving you more variety in terms of gameplay. Lastly, sounds are optimized for VR that, when used with the voice chat, makes for a completely immersive experience. You can give your teammates command or enjoy the realistic weapons clanging against each other.

Although the game gradually increases in difficulty, some players find the game boring and repetitive as it has no form of story progression or no dialogues between players. The format of going to a new floor and defending yourselves from the hordes that come at you starts to become monotonous after a few rounds, especially once you’ve adjusted to the weapon timings and angles.

Hone your (virtual) sword skills

With Swords of Gargantua, you’ll have a great platform to put your skills into practice. With its increasing difficulty levels and a large variety of weapons to choose from, you’re set for hours of gameplay–upgrading your in-game weapon while pinning down the timing physically. The only issue is the repeating pattern, floor after floor. Either way, whether you’re playing alone or with friends, this game is a fun experience to try.
