A cosmic exploration puzzle game
Cocoon is a puzzle adventure game where the player will move between different worlds that are contained within orbs that the player can carry on their back. The mechanics of leaping between worlds is core to the gameplay and key to solving intricate puzzles that the player will face in this platformer game.
Similar to games like The Witness and Braid, Cocoon aims to deliver a unique take on your typical puzzle games. The game is played in a top-down 3D style and features a cartoonish low-poly style of art.
Explore strange new worlds
At the core of Cocoon is the ability for the player to jump between worlds, each with its own distinct look and feel. Moving between worlds is crucial in solving some of the puzzles the player will face, including combining, manipulating, and rearranging those worlds. The worlds themselves are contained in small orbs that the player can carry around with them.
The bulk of the gameplay lies in the solving of the aforementioned intricate puzzles, but it also includes some guardians who are protecting each of the worlds. The player must battle these guardians, and each one requires the player to master a new mechanic to defeat them. The worlds are also large and detailed enough to make exploration a significant gameplay element.
With its use of low-poly 3D graphics, Cocoon creates a unique visual experience for players to admire. The smooth animations allow players to explore numerous unique worlds with ease and also grant players the ability to go up against mighty enemies without worrying about clunky movements hindering their battle abilities. All of these add up to a cinematic experience that reels players into the stunning in-game world and unique environments.
An exciting adventure awaits
After numerous teasers and an award that has named Cocoon as the “Most Anticipated Independent Game”, this platformer has finally earned an official release date. The developer, Annapurna Interactive, announced that this official title will be available to play beginning September 29, 2023. While there is no available demo for you to test out, there are previews available to help give you a clearer understanding of the in-game world and its gameplay.
A visually interesting, challenging game
The low-poly art style used in Cocoon is cohesive and pleasing to the eye. The game is played from a top-down perspective, allowing the player to see much of the surrounding area. The game features a gradual difficulty curve that should make players of all skill levels feel welcome while still being challenging enough in the later stages.
