A Star Wars mod for Doom II

Xim’s Star Wars Doom is a free user-made utility for the classic first-person shooter Doom II. This unique crossover mod from Ximmerman brings the Star Wars universe into your Doom engine, letting you face The Empire with lightsabers and blasters. Even better, it uses custom models from other mods for iconic characters such as Stormtroopers and Darth Vader.

Xim creates the ultimate retro gaming experience with timeless Star Wars content on the equally timeless Doom II with his Xim’s Star Wars Doom mod. Other awesome crossovers include the Mortal Kombat Doom (Zandronum) Mod and the Iron Assault Mod.

Play as basically anyone

Creating an entirely localized feel, Xim’s Star Wars Doom first replaces the Doom Guy with a variety of character options from Kyle Katarn, Mara Jade, or as a random Jedi. You can also play as a rebel trooper or even as a Mandalorian. Each of these characters have different play styles and starting weapons, far different from the original game’s approach.

The crossover mod even repurposes a lot of the existing maps to make it look consistent with the space sci-fi theme. You can explore desert worlds and Empire strongholds, teeming with a variety of opponents unique to each of their environments. You get to face the standard stormtroopers, aliens, and even bounty hunters. It definitely feels like playing two games in one.

As a mod for a fairly old video game, you can expect it to be a bit more tricky to set up. First, you need another third-party software in the form of GZDoom. This 3D-accelerated source port is a prerequisite for running the mod. Even then, there are still compatibility issues to work with, depending on the versions of the mod, the base game, and the source port.

For fans of either franchise

Whether you love Star Wars or Doom or both, Xim’s Star Wars Doom is something you should definitely try. This game uses characters, designs, and technologies from one franchise and implements it in the action-packed gameplay experience of the other. This lets you play as one of the many character classes featured in different games. The only catch is that it takes a little know-how to make it work.
