Help Faraday and the other castaways in their quest

Created by Thomas Olsson of Skeleton Crew, Olija is an action-adventure game that tells the journey of Faraday and other castaways as they try to escape the hostile country of Terraphage where they got trapped after their ship got wrecked. You’ll play as Faraday as you go explore and rescue your fellow castaways. Along the way, you’ll discover a mysterious handcrafted world that is heavily-inspired by sailor legend and meet characters that will help you through your journey.

Impressive attention to detail

The overall vibe that this adventure game gives off is cinematic and fantastical in spite of its minimalist art style. This is mainly because of its meticulously designed visuals and sound that it provides. Despite the hardcore pixels, its atmosphere is spot on. The game plot that it delivers is heartfelt, interesting, and is nicely narrated, as well. Above all, the gameplay that it offers is exceptionally satisfying from start to finish.

However, you will probably still ask for more only because it is a short game that can be finished within a few hours of playthrough. This bite-sized 2D action game leaves a strong impression thanks to the magical harpoon that enables fighting, moving, and discovering secrets especially rewarding. Its combat in particular contains a surprising amount of depth and flexibility, even if its enemies and bosses never really stepped up.

Its magic hat system is a great reward idea and encourages you to do every collection activity in this world. The melancholic soundtrack you’ll hear in this game is inspired by Flamenco, lo-fi, and traditional Japanese music. Regardless of its drawbacks, Olija is still a pleasant treat for players who loves the action-adventure game genre. It is likely to be an early frontrunner for one of the best indie titles of 2021 also.

Perfectly imperfect

Olija is a notable 2D action and indie adventure game that is flawed in some aspects but, it can still give you a remarkable and memorable experience. Mainly because it is packed with solid combat mechanics and a nice movement system. It makes up for all the drawbacks and the lack of game features that it suffers from.
