An atmospheric horror game
TheNightfall is an atmospheric horror game about a woman who moves with her family to a new city and starts a new job, but she finds that the house she’s moved into is not at all what she was expecting. Waiting for the rest of her family to arrive, the protagonist has to spend the night alone in the house.
This game can be likened to other close-quarters first-person horror games, such as P.T. for PC or Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Players should be aware that the game does contain jump scares.
Alone in a new house
The game’s protagonist, Victoria, is moving to a new city with her family so that she can start a new job. She arrives before her family and has to spend a night in their new house alone. She soon finds she having trouble sleeping and is afflicted with a slight malaise, but they end up being the least of her problems as she has to try and survive the night.
First-person exploration
Though the game is confined to the relatively small area of the protagonist’s new home, it is technically an exploration game since the player must explore the house over the course of the story. Events unfold around the player as they look around, inspecting different areas and interacting with objects, such as furniture and cupboards.
A game that looks and sounds good
TheNightfall features high-quality graphics and an interactive soundscape. It also features original music by Northpolyptica. It should be noted that players complained the game involves too much opening doors or cupboards and relies on jumpscares too much, though this is likely a matter of preference.
