First-person dungeon crawler RPG for PC

Slasher’s Keep is a premium action game for PC by developer Damian Schloter. It is a first-person dungeon crawler infused with RPG mechanics and roguelike elements in its gameplay. In it, players are mysteriously imprisoned, and they will need to explore a maze-like dungeon and defeat various monsters to escape.

Just like Warm Snow or Children of Morta, Slasher’s Keep is an action roguelike that offers challenging gameplay with the signature random elements, including randomly-generated levels, as well as various perks and bonuses during every run. It also focuses more on melee combat and some ranged magic attacks.

Escape the keep

Deep within the forgotten forests of Ool lies the titular Slasher’s Keep, a menacing tower that serves as the final destination and home to the land’s most undesirable folk. Many have tried to escape its maze-like dungeons and failed to survive and tell the tale. Then, you come along looking to do the same and hoping that attempt will fare better and result in a successful escape.

Combat in this game mainly focuses on melee swings, thrusts, and carefully-timed parries. You have the option for ranged attacks via magic wands. Each run will feature randomly-generated levels for you to battle through, and the same goes for the items that will grant you random stats and bonuses. There are a variety of enemies to face, too, ranging from goblins to zombies and a mole-like creature.

There are two playable characters at the start, with more to unlock. As you explore, watch out for traps and hidden switches to rooms or treasures. There’s also a simple drag-and-drop crafting system for the items you’ll collect. Given its roguelite leanings, a steep difficulty curve is pretty much expected. What’s not is the way it randomly spikes in various parts of the game, making the experience a little unbalanced.

Slash and thrust your way to freedom

Slasher’s Keep is an interesting first-person action roguelike with a distinct art style and solid gameplay. Combat will have to switch between sword and wand depending on the situation, and the random items provide some unpredictability and variety. Multiple playable characters and the simple crafting system are welcome additions and round out the experience nicely. If you’re a fan of the genre, give this one a try.
