Cuphead is a free mobile game developed by Studio MDHR. This app is the adaption for smart device of the popular shoot’em up game of the same name. Here, you can play the classic run and gun action game on your mobile devices.
The mobile Cuphead game comes with the same premise as its desktop version. Here, you will play as Cuphead or Mugman and traverse through a strange world as you try to pay your debt back to the devil. However, this version is still in the beta stage and will come with a few instability issues.
What is Cuphead?
Cuphead is a classic action game inspired by cartoons of the 1930s. The story of the game revolves around brothers, Cuphead and Mugman. In the game, the brothers made one too many poorly thought-out bets. In the end, they find themselves indebted to the Devil himself. To keep their souls from Lucifer’s hands, they must venture across fantasy worlds and battle all manner of creatures to recover runaway souls.
The mobile Cuphead follows the same premise as the original title, with its gameplay revolving around run ‘n gun mechanics and focusing heavily on boss battles. The attacks involve parry, dash, and a few special attacks. However, while the controls are easy to learn, mastering them is harder. Unlike other similar games, 90% of winning is down to learning the boss’s movement patterns.
Like its desktop counterpart, this mobile version uses the same graphics. With this, expect to see 1930s-style visuals and audio, including traditional hand-drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. However, like its predecessor, players should also expect repetitive gameplay. As noted, this iteration is still under development. Players will notice that it isn’t as stable as it should be.
Should you play it?
Overall, the mobile Cuphead game is a must-try for fans of the original desktop version. It has the same premise and mechanics that you can enjoy on your smartphones. Moreover, it features the same 1930’s-inspired visuals and soundtrack. However, this is only the beta version. It is not as stable as a game app should be. Players will have to wait for the full version for a better experience.
