Mass Effect 3 Save Editor
Mass Effect 3 was recently released, but many gamers are upset that certain extensions have been made available that allow players to modify their games using mods. This has sparked a new debate as to whether or not these mods are legal. Some argue that because these game mods allow you to use game assets that belong to Bioware orEA or can allow you to alter the game in some way that is legal according to the rules of the game (which most game mods are), these are legal. The other side argues that since these same resources were used in previous versions of the games, EA made an agreement with these people to allow them to use the assets & create new games themselves.
As a game designer myself, I canister a lot of frustrations about this whole situation. On one hand, the programmers at Bioware make games that are quite amazing. They use some of the most cutting edge technology that they have to push the boundaries of gaming. A lot of times people forget that the people who make these amazing games are also very talented individuals, with good ideas. A large amount of the Mass Effect 3 save editor is actually taken directly from the original game code, which makes me feel good, and bad, depending on how you look at it.
So is the mass effect 3 save editor legal? At this point in time I have no idea. I can say, though, that if you use this in a game it will most likely cause you legal trouble. If you ever need any legal help, you can contact my office directly. I am currently working on a new game, so anything related to the development of that particular game will not be released for a while.
