Deck-building roguelike game

Slay the Spire is a mobile game from Humble Bundle that combines card game mechanics and roguelike elements. Here, players will build their deck of cards that they can use to defeat bizarre enemies. The game has three acts. All of which are brimming with enemies, bosses, and events along the way. Completing each act will give you relics of immense power. However, the game is procedural-generated. From the cards to the map and the enemies, everything is random.

Build your deck, Slay the Spire

The game will take players to the Spire, a fantastical world where you will encounter enemies on its floors. The goal of the game is to reach the final floor and beat the final boss. You can do so with the help of the cards that you will collect along the way. There are four characters that you can choose from, each with their unique set of cards. As you battle opponents, you will need to select cards that work together and create combos to win the match. There are over 350 fully implemented cards available. With this, you will have various offensive and defensive options at your disposal.

Aside from cards, there are also relics that you can collect, which have unique abilities that change the way you play. They are also a permanent power-up that you can use in all your battles. However, collecting relics is difficult. It requires you to beat elite monsters, which are very difficult to beat and could consume most of your HP. You can choose not to engage them to save your life bar, but you won’t get the relic.

Another thing worth noting is that the Spire is ever-changing. Whenever you embark on a journey, the layout will become different. The content of each floor and the available paths will also change. Of course, this also applies to the bosses that you will face. Not only that, but the cards you collect will also be at the mercy of a random number generator (RNG). Often, this will be the cause of some of your frustrating defeats

Addicting yet frustrating

Slay the Spire is a game you can play if you are into deck building and dungeon crawlers. It has complex gameplay that can entertain you for hours. However, over time, you will find that the procedural-generated world it offers can be frustrating. Almost everything in the game is up to chance, and you really cannot come up with a better strategy to win against the Spire.
