The New York Times is a news application that lets you read articles written by the staff of The New York Times.

The New York Times has a lot of great written content and now you can access it in Windows 8 or Windows RT. The app itself is pretty basic but features some reading controls to adjust font size and style. It would have been nice to see a “night mode” for reading in the dark.

The interface is very simple to navigate. Swipe in from the top or bottom to access the different news categories. Strangely, The New York Times decided to have each of the categories available on the front page so you’re simply scrolled to the relevant section. If you keep scrolling or swiping, you’ll end up in a different section.

The New York Times is ad supported but it doesn’t really impact that reading experience. Ads are usually placed between articles. Paid subscribers will not have to worry about this. There is also a syncing feature for those with an account with The New York Times. Your favorite articles will be saved between your devices.

Overall, The New York Times is a good news reading application but doesn’t offer much else beyond access to their text articles.
