How much wood can a lumberjack chop?

The newest incarnation of Flappy Bird has taken the form of a lumberjack in Timberman, and the chop, chop, chop of his axe proves just as addictive as the flapping of a bird’s wings.

Chop ’til you drop

Like many addictive games before it, Timberman relies on super quick and easy gameplay: chop the tree while avoiding branches that’ll come crashing down on you. Based at the foot of a huge tree, you’ll be forced to tap left and right to avoid getting crushed by a branch, but you can’t be too careful: you’re on the clock, so quick reflexes will help you advance further. The faster you go, the more time you get.

As the infinite tree keeps coming down, you’ll advance through levels almost without noticing. Unlike Flappy Bird, there’s a bit more incentive than just beating your own high score: you can unlock new characters with points including a hockey player named Flockery, a knight named Sir Tim, and even Jason from Friday the 13th

Evergreen

It may take a few quick plays to get the hang of, but Timberman is basically a no-brainer: tap left or right to move from one side of the tree to the other. You die immediately if you run out of time or get squashed by a branch, but its just as easy –and almost impossible not to– pick up and start a new game.

There’s few options in Timberman aside from a leader board, a list of achievements (characters to unlock), and the option to share on social media. The in-game ads are a bit too frequent but -thankfully- only appear in-between games.

Retro roots

The pixelated graphics and retro music fit Timberman perfectly, although the sound of chopping wood gets a little irritating after awhile (nothing that turning off the volume can’t fix).

The background changes to a different forest scene every time you start a new game, which adds just the right amount of variety to a fairly static game.

Unbe-leaf-able

This new take on the Flappy Bird craze brings a fresh persepctive to the uncountable number of clones available. Trying your hand at a little wood chopping with Timberman is the perfect way to relieve (or gain!) stress.
