A unique monster-battling RPG

Cassette Beasts is a premium role-playing game that thrusts players into a remote island inhabited by strange creatures. To find a way home, you will need to explore every inch of the island. You also need to battle monsters as you explore and solve puzzles.

Cassette Beasts take inspiration from Pokemon and Digimon, but not in a straightforward, low-effort way. You won’t capture monsters or assemble a team like normal. Instead, you will record monsters on your cassette tape, then play it back to take on its form. If you form strong bonds, you’ll be able to fuse with them.

What is Cassette Beasts?

Cassette Beasts is an open-world RPG. As mentioned, the game takes place on a remote island called New Wirral. The island is inhabited by strange creatures and a cast of brave folks who use cassette tapes to transform for battle. Here, you play as one of these transforming folks. You will explore the island and collect the 125 monsters you encounter using your trusty cassette tapes.

Collecting monsters entails recording them on tape. Then, during turn-based battles, you can use their abilities by playing back your recording. Doing so allows you to take on their form. In other words, you are transforming into a monster yourself. And if you build strong bonds with your companions, you can combine your strengths while in transformed form. Even better, you can use certain monster abilities in human form.

Furthermore, the game comes with a surprisingly deep combat system thanks to its chemistry chart. Instead of numerical damage multipliers, type match-ups generate status effects. With the chart, you can use elemental chemistry to apply extra buffs or debuffs alongside your attack. Although, memorizing a bunch of elements can be a pain, especially since there are new types, such as plastic, glitter, and astral added.

What’s new in the patch 1.2 update?

In the most recent update of Cassette Beasts, namely version 1.2, a range of notable improvements and added features have been introduced, sure to be warmly welcomed by fans. Notably, this update unveils eight new beasts, with three among them representing newly remastered versions of classic beasts. The remastered beasts from the past encompass Pinbolt, Diveberg, and Adeptile, whereas the remaining five new introductions include Trapwurm, Wyrmaw, Ferriclaw, Auriclaw, and Picksie. Enthusiasts can anticipate an exciting array of additions in this update.

Furthermore, a hidden and new location has been incorporated into the game’s environment. To uncover it, make your way to Harbourtown and engage in conversations with NPCs exhibiting distinctive quest-giver question marks hovering above them. Interact with them sequentially—while some might divert your attention to unrelated tasks, once you encounter the correct individual, they will reveal and guide you toward a recently unearthed mine. Furthermore, this update introduces a collection of ten new moves, encompassing a new offensive technique, multiple actions tailored around new status effects, and an additional four passive abilities.

Is the game good?

Cassette Beasts is an open-world RPG set on the enigmatic New Wirral island. Players use cassette tapes to transform and battle over 120 unique monsters. The game’s distinct mechanic involves recording monsters on tape and then playing back these recordings during turn-based battles to assume their forms. By forming strong bonds, players can even fuse with these creatures. This game creatively melds creature transformation and strategic combat mechanics.
