A free top-down crafting and survival game

My Little Universe is a free survival and crafting game. It uses a hybrid of top-down and isometric viewpoint where you play as a builder, crafter, miner, resource gatherer, and warrior. The bright and well-lit atheistic does a good job of making up for this free survival game’s texture-less features, which is reminiscent of older Pokemon and Wii games.

The comparisons to “MineCraft” and “Don’t Starve” are as obvious as they are correct. There is also a bit of Destiny 2 in there too when you consider its color palette and random boss fights.

What is the point of My Little Universe?

The aim of the game is to turn the ten available planets into habitable and nice places to live. You also set up industrial buildings to help you work the RPG mechanics. Once you have completed one planet and have enough resources, you can move on to one of the other planets.

Is My Little Universe a kids game?

On the surface, its colorful environments and bland textures may suggest a child’s game, and where it may have a simple gameplay loop, it offers the sort of grindy fun that adults will enjoy.

The adverts serve a purpose

In this survival game, you can use the adverts as a way of getting extra supplies to help you prolong the game or get ahead. On the other hand, if you turn off your Internet on your device, you can avoid the adverts altogether. This makes what would normally be an inconvenience into an optional game mechanic.

A little late to the party

This survival and crafting game is a good example of meaningful indie development. On its own merits, it is a good game. However, it sits in the shadows of other well-established games without enough of a unique selling point to make it stand out as a classic.
