Quirky puzzle game
FIG, or ‘Floating Island Game’ is a free little puzzle game from a young developer in Finland. The aim of the game is to guide your ‘brainless guy’ to safety on each of the planets.
FIG’s gameplay resembles lemmings, as your protagonist will walk to his doom without the correct interaction. You can do various things on screen, from flicking switches, to guiding birds and moving platforms. There are a few hints in the read me file that comes with the game, if you get stuck.
The difficulty varies a lot, some levels are nice and easy, others are quite hard to figure out. Some rely on very quick action too, so you’ll need to be sharp with your mouse clicks to have any hope of not getting the brainless guy ‘annihilated’.
The graphics in FIG have a a cutesy crayon look to them, and it has a relaxing soundtrack with the occasional sound effect. As a short desktop time waster, this is a very pleasant experience, and there are some cool ideas in it. FIG’s main problem is the speed at which you have to solve the puzzles to save the guy. Because he walks at quite a pace, you have to be really fast and accurate to be successful on some of the levels, and that can get frustrating. The flip side of that is if you do finish one of the harder levels, you’ll feel like you’ve achieved something.
If you want a cute little brain teaser to break up your day, FIG will amuse you for a while, and it’s free!
