The First Game in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Series

Call of Duty: Black Ops is a first-person shooter, developed by Treyarch. It is the seventh Call of Duty game to be released, the first in the Black Ops spin-off series, and serves as a direct sequel to Call of Duty: World at War. It was originally released in 2010 and has since spawned several direct sequels.

Single and Multi-Player

The single-player campaign mode is set between the years 1961 and 1968 and focuses on the Cold War. The player is put in control of protagonist Alex Mason, a special forces operative from the United States, and missions take place across a variety of locations, such as Cuba, Russia, Laos and Vietnam. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops also offers a number of different online multi-player game modes, including Free For All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.

An Engaging Experience

The game is not perfect, as the single player campaign mode is only around six hours in length, which is disappointing given it has one of the best plots in the entire series. Moreover, the core gameplay is not radically different from previous COD titles. With that being said, Black Ops does fine-tune several aspects, and the multi-player game modes will keep players busy for months, more than making up for the short campaign.
