A new Arma mil-sim game for PC

Arma Reforger is a premium action game for PC developed by Bohemia Interactive. It is a new entry in the hyper-realistic military simulation franchise, Arma. It’s meant to serve as a standalone preview of what fans can expect when Arma 4 officially comes out.

Comparing it to the last release, Arma 3, Arma Reforger features updated graphics that utilize the new Enfusion game engine by the developer. It will also be going back to a classic setting and location that was first introduced back in its Arma: Cold War Assault days but will expand on its scale.

A glimpse of what’s to come

Arma is a tactical military shooter franchise that first debuted back in 2006 with Arma: Armed Assault. It is not as well-known as the likes of the Call of Duty or Battlefield franchises, but it has a loyal fan base due to its hyper-realistic tactical scenarios and gameplay mechanics. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Arma 4, and Arma Reforger is a nice preview to tie them over.

The game returns to Everon, a mid-Atlantic island during the Cold War. Side with either the USA or the Soviet Union as you clash and dominate each other on the battlefield. There are two multiplayer modes available to you. Conflict would be your standard objective-based team match mode. Meanwhile, Game Master will let you create custom matches of your own, with scenarios and objectives you can set.

You can also create and inject mods into your matches and make changes to the game itself with the help of the development tools, which come in the form of the Workshop and the Workbench, respectively. Currently, though, players have been experiencing some server issues, particularly, when more than 32 players have joined the match. Also, while the game supports DX12, the performance needs more optimization.

Good things to come

All in all, Arma Reforger is a nice preview of what you can expect when Arma 4 comes out. The new Enfusion game engine is looking great, and the level of realism in the game is just as good as you might expect. If you’ve been a fan of the series since its early days, the return is Everon brings a sense of nostalgia with it.
