Even nitro can’t make these drag races excite

Drag Race: Rush is a simple arcade racing game, where you compete around the world in street drag races. All you need to do is hit the accelerator, and shift gear at the optimum moment to beat your opponent.

Drag race for your life

In Drag Race: Rush, you play a champion street racer, who’s been cheated out of their title by another racer. A girl named Svetlana comes to your rescue, giving you a car so you can work your way back up to the top and reclaim your title.

The aim is to win a series of drag races, while using the prize money to tune your car, or buy new ones between races, as the challenge increases. Races themselves are simple – accelerate and make sure to change gear when your rev counter hits the green zone for maximum acceleration. Progress is linear, and the difficulty increases gradually. If you keep spending your prize money wisely, you should always be able to win races.

Gentlemen, start your engines

Drag Race: Rush looks pretty good, but the fixed camera races aren’t much to shout about. There are no official licenses in the game, but the cars all look like copies of actual brands. It’s a shame the developer didn’t add names to the vehicles, or create original ones to give the game more character. The atmosphere is reminiscent of Need for Speed, but the game doesn’t produce the same thrills.

While it’s free to play, Drag Race: Rush is full of ads. Almost every time you switch menus an ad will pop up, anything from a single screen ad to a video you have to watch for five seconds before moving on. It’s not the end of the world, but all these ads can cut into your data plan if you’re not on WiFi.

Up for elimination

Drag Race: Rush is a simple racing game. It’s not very challenging, nor do races reproduce much of the excitement of actual racing. It works as a casual distraction, but the ads do get in the way of what enjoyment there is.
