Protect the common folk and win the strike
ZRevolution is a free strategy video game that lets you play as citizens-turned-heroes to help protect the city from oppression. This 2D indie game is a “GameDev Strike” in honor of the real-life struggles of a country and so features a more serious nature to its characters.
ZRevolution is highly similar to that of Plants vs. Zombies, wherein you must protect your lanes in order to win the levels. There aren’t any fancy controls with the keyboard but the lack of a tutorial doesn’t really help players unfamiliar with this type of tower defense.
Hold your ground against the enemy
In ZRevolution, you play as humans equipped with weapons instead of cute plants or whatnot. This is because the game is inspired by the real-life events of Myanmar, wherein the government is in disarray and the citizens have decided to fight back. You can donate to the developer’s cause via the game’s menu. Just click the shopping cart icon to be redirected to the proper website.
The offers 10 levels with one goal: protect each of your five lanes by assigning a unit to a space to defeat each oncoming enemy. Each unit requires a different amount of energy so you need wisely spend energy bubbles you collect, which can either be spawned from the map or generated by your own unit, the Keyboard Fighter. It’s recommended to have at least one Keyboard Fighter per lane.
Fortunately, the enemies won’t overwhelm you all the time. There are three waves that will come at you and you can check the top-right meter when this will happen. However, while the controls are easy enough to grasp, starting out can be confusing since there’s no tutorial available. You don’t get any instructions on what to do, actually, so it’ll be tricky if you’ve never played tower defense games before.
Badly needs a feature
Overall, ZRevolution is a fun lane-style tower defense indie game. It’s got solid gameplay and easy controls. Plus, you can help out the developer and their fight to rebel against the system by donating through the game. However, the lack of a tutorial can be hard for players who have never played games like Plants vs. Zombies before.
